The Population Institute has a robust Fellows Program. We maintain a roster of Senior Fellows with expertise in demography, foreign policy, and reproductive health and rights. These thought leaders support us to clarify and communicate how population dynamics and demographic shifts relate to social, political, and economic development globally and to educate policymakers, the media, and other people in power about the importance of our mission.
The Robert J. Walker Fellowship was established in 2025 to honor the legacy of former Population Institute President Bob Walker. This fellowship supports the efforts of early-career scholars with interests in sustainability, demography, security, economic development, human rights, and diplomacy.
Every summer, the Population Institute hosts a group of Stanback Fellows. The Stanback Fellowship Program is a partnership between Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and non-profit environmental organizations. The program provides students with significant project-based learning experiences in energy, conservation, advocacy, policy, research and applied resource management.
